Apple shows the way with iPhone X

Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple Inc., speaks about the iPhone during an event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California.

Of course, Apple enthusiasts disagree.

But even if you are so inclined, you still might streamline the decision by honestly taking stock of which features you use on your current smartphone.

"By far the most expensive phone in the marketplace", was how the new iPhone was described by one of Apple's competitors, who cast doubt on the smartphone's chances in an increasingly competitive market. That extra camera allows for 2x optical zoom and the Portrait Mode effect (where the background of a shot is automatically blurred).

Touch ID can recognise you under any circumstance: The TrueDepth system (specifically, the flood illuminator) shoots light at your face so you can be recognised at any time, with any hairstyle, in any light - no matter what you're wearing.

Apple shares on average have gained around 33 percent in the year following each of its previous iPhone launch events, dating back to the first one on Jan 9, 2007.

But the rise of financial technologies in China may help Apple reach new consumers. And finally what of ARKit, the augmented reality platform coming with iOS 11?

"The feature set of the phones was impressive but largely in-line with expectations with a later shipment date for the iPhone X (November 3rd). iPhone X is priced starting at $999 (64GB) and $1149 (256GB), which could test the relatively inelastic pricing that Apple has experienced in the past".

There's no wrong answer - if you believe you'll be happier with a high-end phone, then that's a good thing. You can get crisp and clear photos in challenging lighting conditions, thanks to its Quad-LED True Tone flash.

The iPhone X features a massive 5.8-inch OLED display with 1125x2436 pixels resolution at 458ppi.

The biggest decline was seen in the prices of iPhone 7.

The iPhone 8 is, for reasons outlined here before, a fairly boring phone.

Apple also added wireless Qi charging like the iPhone X and the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard, which is expected to become widely used in the next year for headphones and other peripherals.

Wood said: "The iPhone X and iPhone 8 models are very strong additions to Apple's portfolio that address increasing competition from Samsung and others".

Schiller said: "This is the first iPhone created for AR". But nothing happened; the facial recognition wasn't letting him in.

Designed to replace Apple's fingerprint-enabled Touch ID, which disappeared along with the iPhone's home button to enable a front face that's nearly all screen, Face ID lets users unlock their devices and verify purchases through facial recognition technology.

If you're bamboozled by the three new iPhones that Apple's unveiled, the differences aren't actually that difficult to get your head around. The primary sensor comes with f/1.8 lens and supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) while both devices come with a different configuration for the secondary 12MP telephoto lens.
